Alytus suits anyone who wants as little travel and as much quiet walking as possible. Start at the Regional Museum and, if the weather is good, carry on to Punia hill fort, which stands outside the town and needs a separate plan. By the timetable, direct daytime buses from Kaunas to Alytus on Saturday take 1 h to 1 h 30 min. Practical tip: the museum is open Tuesday to Friday 9:00–18:00 and on Saturday 10:00–16:00, and closed on Sunday and Monday. On the day before public holidays, including the eves of 1 and 2 November, the hours are cut by one hour. Check the bus timetable to Punia separately. Students, schoolchildren, pensioners and people with disabilities get a discount at the museum.
