How do you buy a train ticket? On the LTG Link website the purchase has four steps: search, choosing tickets, seats and extra services, payment. On Friday, 30 October, a 2nd class ticket on Vilnius–Kaunas services costs €4.30–5.40 per adult (with the LTG Link 50% discount on local routes; valid for journeys 9 October–31 December, terms, checked on 2026-10-09).

How to buy a train ticket: 4 steps

The purchase bar on the ticket website shows four steps: “Ticket selection”, “Seat selection”, “Additional services” and “Payment” (ticket search, checked on 2026-10-09).

  1. Fill in the search. The fields: “From”, “To”, “Departure date”, “Return date” and “Passengers”. The passengers field shows “1 x Adult (Full price)” by default. Give a return date only when you are also buying the way back.
  2. Choose a service. Each row shows the departure and arrival time, the journey time, the train number and the price in 1st and 2nd class. The site marks sold-out services separately.
  3. Choose a seat and extra services. The purchase bar shows these two screens.
  4. Pay. The last step of the bar is called “Payment”.

Tickets are also sold through other channels: the mobile app (Android and iOS), ticket machines at the largest stations, “Perlo” terminals (cash only) and on the train (discounts page, checked on 2026-10-06).

Compare services before you buy

The price depends on the specific service, not only on the class. On the same day 2nd class costs from €4.30 to €5.40. The date bar above the results shows “from €4.30” for each day from 28 October to 1 November. The prices are per adult, with the LTG Link 50% discount on local routes, valid for journeys 9 October–31 December (terms, checked on 2026-10-09).

Sunday, 1 November, Kaunas–Vilnius 11:12 12:31 1 h 19 min €6.00 €4.30

The fastest services (59 min) were not the cheapest. One of the cheapest, at 09:13, takes 20 min longer.

Check the timetable before you buy

The LTG Link annual timetable has no short-term changes. The website itself suggests checking the times in the ticket search (timetables page, checked on 2026-10-06). For Vilnius–Riga, Vilnius–Šiauliai and Vilnius–Trakai the service-break timetable applies until the end of November. Check your own date.

When tickets can be bought

  • How far ahead. The page does not give the exact limit. If there is no service for your date in the search yet, check later.
  • When sales end. In Vilnius, in Kaunas and on the website, tickets are no longer sold 3 min before departure (rules, checked on 2026-10-06).
  • A ticket on the train. A €2 service fee applies to each seat if the station has a ticket machine. Buy in advance.

Discounts worth finding out about

Cheaper for the return. If you buy a single ticket there and back at the same time, a 5% discount applies to the “return” ticket. It is valid for 2nd and 3rd class when you buy on the website, in the app, at a ticket machine or at a “Perlo” sales point (point 1 of the rules). On local routes until 31 December it does not apply, because the 50% discount applies (terms).

For children. On journeys in Lithuania, children up to and including 7 years old who do not take a separate seat travel free. If a child under 7 takes their own seat, a 50% discount applies, as it does for children aged 8–18. When buying, in the “Passenger” field choose “Child/pupil (50% discount)”. The discounts apply only to 2nd and 3rd class, and if there is any doubt about age, carry a birth certificate or an identity document (discounts for children, checked on 2026-10-06).

You will find other concessions, for example for students or seniors, on the discounts page.
