Kaunas bus station (Vytauto pr. 24) and railway station (M. K. Čiurlionio g. 16) are close to each other: it is about 620 m on foot between them, roughly 8 min. It is 3.4–3.7 km on foot from both to the old town, so with luggage it is worth taking city transport or a taxi. Some FlixBus services to Vilnius and Klaipėda leave not from the bus station but from the “IX fortas” stop. We calculated the distances from OpenStreetMap data and checked the services on 2026-10-06.

Where Kaunas bus and railway stations are

  • Bus station: Vytauto pr. 24. We found the address and the location in OpenStreetMap data (search, checked on 2026-10-06). We found the station’s services in no reliable source, so we do not write them.
  • Railway station: M. K. Čiurlionio g. 16 (LTG Link list of stations, checked on 2026-10-06).

Walking distances by the OpenStreetMap pedestrian route, without a suitcase:

Route Distance Time
Bus station – railway station about 620 m about 8 min
Bus station – Town Hall Square about 3.4 km about 45 min
Railway station – Town Hall Square about 3.7 km about 49 min

Examples of the calculations: between the stations, from the bus station to Town Hall Square, from the railway station to Town Hall Square (checked on 2026-10-06).

Where FlixBus leaves from

On the FlixBus Kaunas–Riga route page one stop in Kaunas is given: the bus station (page, checked on 2026-10-06). The search shows more. The table shows services from Kaunas on 12 December 2026, for one adult (search example, checked on 2026-10-07):

Direction Services in all Bus station “IX fortas” stop
Vilnius 22 14 8
Klaipėda 11 3 8
Riga 5 5 –
Warsaw 9 9 –

To Vilnius and Klaipėda most services that day left from “IX fortas”. The search does not show the stop’s address, so we do not write it or the way to the station. Other search results may differ.

How not to go wrong

  1. When you buy a ticket, open the service details and look at the name of the departure stop.
  2. If the stop is “IX fortas”, do not wait at the bus station.
  3. Check the stop’s address in your ticket before you leave home.
  4. Buy your train ticket in advance: the steps are here.

What is at the railway station
