In short: Tallinn airport is about 4 km from the centre, so the cheapest way is tram T2 or T4 with a €2 QR ticket. The state does not regulate the price of a taxi, so ask for an estimate before you set off (airport, checked on 2026-10-07).

The tram and buses

The airport’s public transport centre is on the north side of the terminal, the side facing the city. From the arrivals hall you walk by escalator or lift and a crossing to the stops. Trams and city buses leave from here.

  • T2: airport – Old Harbour – Kopli.
  • T4: airport – Tondi.
  • Buses 47, 49 and 65: to Peetri school, Viimsi centre and Priisle.
  • Bus 2: a stop on the Tartu highway, a short walk from the terminal.

Tallinn bus station is 2.4 km from the airport, and you can reach it by tram, bus or taxi (airport).

Tickets

For one journey buy a QR ticket for €2: online or at the ticket machine in the waiting area by the tram and bus stops. It is valid for one hour. You can also buy a ticket by holding a contactless bank card to the validator on the tram or bus.

Top up the “Ühiskaart” (the Tallinn public transport card) at the R-kiosk in the public part of the terminal next to the arrivals hall. We explain the general ticket rules in the guide public transport in Tallinn (in Lithuanian).

Taxis

Taxis stand in front of the terminal. The airport’s official partners are Bolt, Forus Taxi and Uber, and ordinary Comfort, Premium or XL class taxis also wait. In Estonia taxi tariffs are not capped by law, so ask for an approximate amount before you start the journey. The airport advises choosing its partners from the official taxi rank. Taxis of other companies may stop only in the Kiss&Fly zone in the car park building.

What may change

The airport’s page says that road works nearby cause congestion and affect public transport timetables. Allow more time, especially for a flight. When looking for the stops, follow the signs in the terminal.

How to choose

  • Cheap and simple: tram T2 or T4 with a QR ticket.
  • With heavy luggage or children: a taxi in front of the terminal, but with an estimated price.
  • Going to another Estonian city: some long-distance buses stop at the airport, as do all the Lux Express buses that come in along the Tartu highway. Tell the driver in advance.

People from Vilnius can compare with the Vilnius airport guide. You will find weekend ideas on the Tallinn page and in the weekend in Tallinn guide (in Lithuanian), and for those arriving by bus there is the Tallinn bus station article.
